progeMCP

progeMCP lets AI apps such as Claude Desktop and Cursor work in progeCAD 2027 Professional on your PC. Ask in plain words and your AI draws, edits and checks your drawing with progeCAD's own tools: 2D and 3D geometry, layers, blocks, dimensions, text and tables, progeCAD's architecture objects, the iCADLib block library, PDF output and drawing checks.

Getting started

  1. Run progeMCP.exe (download) and click Install. Setup lists the AI apps it finds on this computer, all ticked; click Connect.
  2. Restart your AI app so it loads progeMCP.
  3. Start progeCAD 2027 Professional and open (or start) a drawing.
  4. Ask your AI to draw something, for example “Draw a 10×10 ft room with a door and a window on the west wall.”
The 14-day free trial starts the first time your AI app uses progeMCP on this computer. See Free trial.

Installing

progeMCP installs for the current Windows user in %LOCALAPPDATA%\progeMCP; no administrator rights are needed. Setup adds two Start menu entries:

Start menuWhat it does
progeMCPThe progeMCP window: trial status, enter and register an unlock code, release the licence, buy.
progeMCP HelpOpens this help page.

Requirements: Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit), progeCAD 2027 Professional, and an AI app that supports MCP servers. An internet connection is needed once to start the trial and once to register.

Connecting your AI app

Setup looks for these AI apps on this computer and lists the ones it finds in one window, all ticked. For each one you leave ticked it adds a progemcp entry to the app's MCP settings and keeps a backup of the file the first time (file.progeMCP-backup). Restart the app afterwards; progeMCP's tools then appear in it, and the app starts progeMCP by itself whenever it needs it.

Setup changes only apps that are already on the computer. If it cannot read an app's settings safely (for example a file you edited by hand that contains comments), it leaves that file exactly as it was and names the app in its last message; connect that app by hand as below. Installed an AI app after progeMCP? Run the progeMCP installer again, or connect it by hand.

Connecting by hand

Use these steps if Setup did not connect your AI app, or for an app it does not set up. In every example replace <you> with your Windows user name; to see the exact path, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\progeMCP\server in the File Explorer address bar. In JSON files every \ in the path is written twice. If the file already has servers in it, add only the "progemcp": { … } part next to the others, with a comma between entries. Quit and restart the app afterwards.

The env lines are optional: an app that cannot pass them still gets the same setup.

Claude Desktop, Gemini CLI, Antigravity, Junie, Kiro, LM Studio, Cline, Roo Code, Windsurf / Devin

These use the common mcpServers format. Claude Desktop: Settings → Developer → Edit Config opens the file. Cline and Roo Code: open the MCP servers panel in the extension and choose Configure / Edit MCP settings. Windsurf / Devin Desktop: its MCP settings page. The other files are in the table above.

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "progemcp": {
      "command": "C:\\Users\\<you>\\AppData\\Local\\progeMCP\\server\\progemcp-server.exe",
      "args": [],
      "env": { "PROGEMCP_BACKEND": "com", "ENABLE_3D": "true" }
    }
  }
}

Cursor

Cursor Settings → MCP → Add new global MCP server opens %USERPROFILE%\.cursor\mcp.json. Cursor needs the type line:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "progemcp": {
      "type": "stdio",
      "command": "C:\\Users\\<you>\\AppData\\Local\\progeMCP\\server\\progemcp-server.exe",
      "args": [],
      "env": { "PROGEMCP_BACKEND": "com", "ENABLE_3D": "true" }
    }
  }
}

GitHub Copilot in VS Code, Copilot CLI

Create or edit %USERPROFILE%\.copilot\mcp-config.json (VS Code reads it too):

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "progemcp": {
      "type": "stdio",
      "command": "C:\\Users\\<you>\\AppData\\Local\\progeMCP\\server\\progemcp-server.exe",
      "args": [],
      "env": { "PROGEMCP_BACKEND": "com", "ENABLE_3D": "true" },
      "tools": ["*"]
    }
  }
}

Or in VS Code: Command Palette → MCP: Add Server → Command (stdio), enter the server path, name it progemcp and choose Global. Use one way, not both, or the server shows twice.

Visual Studio 2022 / 2026

Create or edit %USERPROFILE%\.mcp.json. Visual Studio uses servers, not mcpServers:

{
  "servers": {
    "progemcp": {
      "type": "stdio",
      "command": "C:\\Users\\<you>\\AppData\\Local\\progeMCP\\server\\progemcp-server.exe",
      "args": [],
      "env": { "PROGEMCP_BACKEND": "com", "ENABLE_3D": "true" }
    }
  }
}

Then in Copilot Chat (Agent mode) open the tools list and switch the progemcp tools on.

ChatGPT desktop app and Codex (CLI and IDE extension)

Add this to %USERPROFILE%\.codex\config.toml (create the file if it is not there). The path is in single quotes so its backslashes stay single:

[mcp_servers.progemcp]
command = 'C:\Users\<you>\AppData\Local\progeMCP\server\progemcp-server.exe'
args = []
env = { PROGEMCP_BACKEND = "com", ENABLE_3D = "true" }
startup_timeout_sec = 60

Or, with Codex CLI installed: codex mcp add progemcp --env PROGEMCP_BACKEND=com --env ENABLE_3D=true -- "C:\Users\<you>\AppData\Local\progeMCP\server\progemcp-server.exe"

Grok Build (xAI)

Add the same table to %USERPROFILE%\.grok\config.toml, without the startup_timeout_sec line.

Claude Code

claude mcp add --scope user --transport stdio --env PROGEMCP_BACKEND=com --env ENABLE_3D=true progemcp -- "C:\Users\<you>\AppData\Local\progeMCP\server\progemcp-server.exe"

Gemini CLI (command)

gemini mcp add -s user -e PROGEMCP_BACKEND=com -e ENABLE_3D=true progemcp "C:\Users\<you>\AppData\Local\progeMCP\server\progemcp-server.exe"

Zed

In Zed's settings.json (Zed → Settings → Open Settings) add:

"context_servers": {
  "progemcp": {
    "command": "C:\\Users\\<you>\\AppData\\Local\\progeMCP\\server\\progemcp-server.exe",
    "args": [],
    "env": { "PROGEMCP_BACKEND": "com", "ENABLE_3D": "true" }
  }
}

Continue (VS Code / JetBrains)

Add a file .continue\mcpServers\progemcp.yaml in your workspace:

name: progeMCP
version: 0.0.1
schema: v1
mcpServers:
  - name: progemcp
    type: stdio
    command: C:\Users\<you>\AppData\Local\progeMCP\server\progemcp-server.exe
    args: []
    env:
      PROGEMCP_BACKEND: com
      ENABLE_3D: "true"

Goose

Settings → Extensions → Add custom extension → type STDIO, name progemcp, command: the server path, environment variables PROGEMCP_BACKEND=com and ENABLE_3D=true.

JetBrains AI Assistant, Jan, Msty, AnythingLLM and other apps

Look in the app's settings for MCP servers and add a STDIO (local command) server: name progemcp, command C:\Users\<you>\AppData\Local\progeMCP\server\progemcp-server.exe, no arguments, and, if the app has environment variables, PROGEMCP_BACKEND=com and ENABLE_3D=true. JetBrains AI Assistant: Settings → Tools → AI Assistant → Model Context Protocol (MCP) → Add → STDIO, then paste the mcpServers block above.

Apps that cannot use progeMCP

progeMCP runs on your computer next to progeCAD, so it works only with AI apps that can start a program on your computer. These cannot (they only connect to servers on the internet): ChatGPT in the web browser, the Microsoft Copilot app, Microsoft 365 Copilot and Copilot Studio, Grok on the web and phone, the Gemini app, Le Chat, and Claude in the web browser. Use the desktop app or command-line tool of the same company instead (ChatGPT desktop, GitHub Copilot in VS Code or Visual Studio, Grok Build, Gemini CLI or Antigravity, Claude Desktop or Claude Code).

Free trial

progeMCP works fully for 14 days on each computer. The trial starts the first time your AI app uses progeMCP on that computer; the progeMCP window (Start menu → progeMCP) shows the days left. The first start needs an internet connection: without one, progeMCP allows a few starts and then asks you to connect once.

When the trial ends, progeMCP's tools stop and your AI tells you so. Register an unlock code to keep using it. Your drawings are not affected.

Registering (unlock)

  1. Buy an unlock code: click Buy now in the progeMCP window or go to progecad.us/buy-progemcp, or buy from your progeCAD reseller (find a reseller). The code arrives by email and looks like PP-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX.
  2. Open progeMCP from the Start menu, enter the code and click Register.
  3. Restart your AI app if it was open.

Registration needs an internet connection once; afterwards progeMCP stays registered without internet. One code registers one computer. You can register the same computer again with the same code (for example after reinstalling Windows). An unlock code is for one major version of progeMCP.

IT deployment: after installing, "%LOCALAPPDATA%\progeMCP\progeMCP.exe" activate --code PP-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX --quiet registers progeMCP without the window (exit code 0 = registered).

Moving to a new computer

The old computer still works: on the old computer open progeMCP from the Start menu and click Release this licence. progeMCP stops working there; enter the same code in progeMCP on the new computer and click Register.

The old computer no longer works (broken, lost or wiped): use Move my progeMCP licence. Enter the code and the email address it was sent to; we email you a link that releases the code, then register it on the new computer.

A code can be moved to a new computer twice in 12 months this way. After that, or if your reseller received the code for you, write to [email protected].

What to ask your AI

Talk to your AI as you would to a drafter. progeCAD must be running, with the drawing open that you want to work on. A few examples:

Other things progeMCP can do: 2D and 3D geometry and edits (move, copy, rotate, mirror, offset, trim, fillet, arrays), hatches, text and tables, blocks and attributes, layouts and viewports, title blocks, P&ID symbols and lines, mechanical parts and hole patterns, and measuring and analysing drawings. Ask your AI what it can do in progeCAD for the full list.

Give the sizes you care about. If your request leaves something open (units, wall height and thickness, door and window sizes, which way doors swing), progeMCP has your AI ask you first instead of inventing values. If you tell it to go ahead anyway, it uses standard values and tells you which ones.

How progeMCP behaves

Troubleshooting

ProblemWhat to do
The AI says it cannot reach progeCADStart progeCAD 2027 Professional, open a drawing, and ask again. progeCAD must run on the same computer, in your own Windows session.
progeMCP's tools do not appear in the AI appRestart the AI app (fully quit it, including from the system tray). Check that its settings have the progemcp entry (which file), add it by hand, or run the progeMCP installer again. In Visual Studio, switch the progemcp tools on in Copilot Chat.
“Connect this PC to the internet once to start the trial”The trial must be recorded once online. Connect to the internet and restart your AI app.
“progeMCP's trial has ended”Buy an unlock code and register it in the progeMCP window (Registering).
Registration cannot reach the serviceCheck the internet connection and any firewall, then try again.
“This unlock code is already registered on another computer”Each code unlocks one computer. Release it on the other computer, or see Moving to a new computer.
progeCAD is stuck at a promptPress Esc in progeCAD, then ask the AI to continue.

Files & uninstall

progeMCP is installed for the current Windows user in %LOCALAPPDATA%\progeMCP. To remove it, open Windows Settings → Apps → Installed apps, find progeMCP and choose Uninstall. This removes progeMCP's files and Start menu entries, and takes the progemcp entry out of every AI app's settings listed above (nothing else in those files is changed). Your drawings are never touched.

The licence stays on the computer, so a reinstall is still registered. To use the code on another computer, release it before you uninstall.

IT deployment: "%LOCALAPPDATA%\progeMCP\progeMCP-uninstall.exe" --uninstall --quiet removes progeMCP without questions.

Removing by hand

If the uninstaller does not work:

  1. Quit your AI apps, then open Task Manager and end any progemcp-server.exe and progeMCP.exe still running.
  2. Delete the folder %LOCALAPPDATA%\progeMCP (type it in the File Explorer address bar, go up one level, delete progeMCP).
  3. Delete the Start menu entries progeMCP and progeMCP Help from %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs.
  4. In each AI app's settings file (see the table above) delete the "progemcp": { … } entry, and the comma in front of it if there is one; in the TOML files delete the [mcp_servers.progemcp] block. For Claude Code run claude mcp remove progemcp --scope user. A copy of each file as it was before progeMCP is next to it as file.progeMCP-backup.
  5. Optional: to remove the Apps list entry, delete the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\progeMCP. The licence is in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\progeCAD USA\progeMCP; leave it if you may reinstall (release the code first if it should move to another computer).
